NYODACIANSFirstly i need to make a public apology to Mr Ong for conveying misleading and inaccurate information. I seek for all of your forgiveness for my terrible mistake and i have made the necessary changes to the blog post. Sorry for any inconvenience.Mr Ong has made it clear to me that the reason why he do not want to continue ODAC not because of the lack of funding by the college or the lack of enthusiasm on the students part, the reason is he is tired of running ODAC and he is hoping for new challenges. To NYODACians, I have wrote this message in view of some important messages that i wish to convey to you guys. This year, the ODAC club has zero funding from the school. At the moment we are surviving with a fund of $94.05, perhaps, this I believe is a clear message from the school that the club should not continue running. I am now place in a spot. My picture of ODAC in the future is blur. To add on to this problem, Mr Ong has made it very clear and decided to close down ODAC he do not wish to run ODAC.In other words, there will not may be no more 6th ODAC batch next year, we will be the last batch of ODACians in NYJC. From the day i took over, i have met with several setbacks. From having too large a group, to the lack of teachers, medics and fundings. I have not yet got an answer to these problems and they are all forcing me to a dead end. Perhaps, what kept me going is that enthusiasm and unity within all of you. It just spurs me on and on. Day after day i see people training on their own accord. Day after day i see people cheering on for me. Such care, and such enthusiam is the fuel that keeps my determination burning. I cherish the time that i spend with you people whether it is happy, sad or even angry. I believe each of us are better people now because I see changes in you and me. There are 40 of us, each one of us counts no matter what. I don't want to disappoint the 39 of you.To me even if we are forced to close down by the school, because we have no teacher, because we have no funding or any other problems. I wish to make 5th ODAC one of the best ODAC of all the years.I am now calling upon all ODACians, I need your support. We seek both you and your parents understanding that ODAC is a club that involves courage, that involves ethusiasm, that involves determination. The risk may be high, but the return is priceless. I understand the fear of your parents, for stopping you to take part in dangerous activities. Like you, i have the same problems. ODAC will always do our best to ensure the safety of every member throughout any activities although we cannot gurantee it to be 100% safe we make sure that it is very safe. We as ODACians should learn to take responsibility and learn to take care of ourselves. This is how we will grow. This is what we call ODAC. We are Challenging these LIMITS because we want to tell our juniors, or in fact tell the whole of NYJC that we are the group of people who leave the school with priceless experiences. All of you have managed to cover a half trithalon distance, some of you have scaled Mount Belumut, some of you have finished 84km of nightcycling, Some of you completed 30km worth of Adventure Trail Challenge, some of you have experienced a 15 hours worth of trek in De-Urbanised Transverse. Think of these experiences, what do they mean in your life?I know the cost behind it, but what are they compared to our lessons learnt?I believe the only way to make our situation better is to impress Mr Ong about what we can do.PS: Forget about the last part which i mentioned, about the overseas trip.

Club Rules and Punishment Style
1. Show respect for ICs
2. No taking of lifts in NYJC.Any ODACian caught taking the lift will be punished with 20 on the spot-push ups.
3. ODAC and college collar pins are to be worn at all times when wearing school uniform.
Any ODACian caught without ODAC and/or college pin will be punished with 20 on the spot push-ups.
4. Standard attire: official ODAC T-shirt and dark based shorts (dark blue, black.) above knee, girls are advised to refrain from wearing shorts that are too short.Any ODACian in the wrong attire will be required to do 50 push-ups per piece.
5. Commencement time for Wednesday trainings is 3pm sharp in the correct attire. Please fill your water bottles and visit the washroom before trainings.ODACians who will be late with valid reasons are to inform Ya Ying before 2.30pm. Unless due to last minute decisions, they are suppose to inform before 2.45pm.All ODACians will have to do bridge until the last late-comer arrive. Maximum punishment time is 30 min. This is a deterrent measure.
6. Absentees are required to submit relevant documents of excuse Ya Ying by the next training. Valid documents include Medical Certificate issued by doctors and letter of excuse by figures of authority (eg. parents, teachers), including the contact number and signature of the person certifying the letter. Validity of parent’s letter is considered on a case-by-case basis with the approval by Daniel, Ya Ying and Jeremy.Absentees will be considered as absent without valid reason if document of excuse is not submitted by the next training.
7. Any ODACian who do not turn up for trainings without valid reasons for 3 times will be sacked from the club unconditionally. This includes Wednesday trainings, Saturday trainings and all other official ODAC activities.Only the following groups of people are exempted from Saturday activities: 1. Peer Tutoring 2. OSLE 3. ODACians who have signed up for community service before any activity is announced.Reason being ODAC should not deter ODACians from doings good deeds to help people. ODACians involved in church activities need not turn up for Saturday activities as well.
8. ODACians who are fit to attend school but are not fit to train are still required to turn up for training. They are not required to change into their sports attire. ODACians who still don’t feel well after validity of MCs are still required to turn up for PT as well, but they need not train. (Wai Kwan)
9. ODACians are not allowed to leave training premises before Daniel grants prior permission due to safety reasons. Those who do not abide by the rule will be sacked unconditionally (Yi Qian), this is to act as deterrence. ( We do not expect anyone to go missing in the middle of an ODAC trip.) (Jeremy)(Mr Ong).
ODACians are not required to tuck in their shirts during trainings.
§ Ambiguity to whether ODACians deliberately tuck out or shirt ‘came out’ accidentally. (Hong Hao)
§ Up to personal preference, not an issue at all. (Daniel)
Discipline: no one-fit-all approach (Yi Qian), ICs of the day will impose suitable punishment at during debriefing. Ya Ying and Daniel compliments each other – soft/hard approach.
All punishments are to act as deterrence, hopefully we do not have to impose the punishments.
Goals
§ Various outdoor activities (Hong Hao)
§ Emerge top 5 for Vertical Marathon 2008
§ Overseas TripNote that we have problems with Funding, and the lack of teachers to satisfy the student to teacher ratio (1:12) so we seek your understanding.
§ Organize a major event for the college – night cycling
§ Complete triathlon/ duathlon
Roles of EXCO members
Changes ODACians wish to see, or maintain.
Daniel
Lead by example
Mutual respect
Be more sensitive
Mr Ong: ‘least diplomatic president ever… Some things he said made me feel like smacking him’
Mr Ong: “ Be a motivator”
Jeremy/ Ya Ying
Vice Presidents are not assistant presidents (Mr Ong), VPs should lead the club as well.
Heung Kin
Be more vocal, speak up (Peak Siah), don’t bow when you speak.
Elaine
Go to her if we have any problems – shout box
Act as bridge between members and EXCO, listen to comments/ complains and regurgitate to Daniel. Person will remain anonymous.
Collate a list of 3 biggest weakness from everyone, we’ll open them together at the end of the year to see if we have improved.
Roles of members
Attitude
There is an element of risk in all ODAC activities, are we prepared to take the risk?
Speak up, for healthy communication within the club; if you choose to keep quiet when you’re unhappy, it’ll eventually lead to resentment. Inform EXCO members NICELY if you have any problems with them.
Be more open to comments whether it is negative or positive and do not bear grudges. Reflect on what we have done not incorrectly, during the interview or over the past few months. Face those weaknesses, work on them and strive to improve.
Parent’s approval
ODAC is unlike other CCA, there will be a safety issue in all activities we engage in. Moreover, we’ll be expected to spend a lot of time and effort when it comes to planning of events. We need our parent’s support and approval. Explain to them NICELY and assure them that we will not allow ODAC to affect our studies (anyway we’ll be banned if we do not perform academically). It’ll be even more difficult to gain college’s approval if Mr Kwek receives any complains from parents or teachers.
Ming Jie
Heung Kin/ Yi Qian: show certain degree of defiance, not following instructions, competitiveness, not cooperative
Mr Ong: Ming Jie felt that his efforts and strength are not appreciated, that explains his attitude. He’s not the only one, he is just a more obvious. Under a promise there will be a ‘blanket party’ at end of year if he doesn’t change his attitude at the end of the year, likewise for anyone else.
Upcoming Activities
Triathlon./ Duathlon
Pros:
The need for a major event to push ourselves to achieve something by the end of J1, this is to gain recognition and acknowledgement by the school and the 6th ODAC.
There must be commitment, drive and motivation towards ODAC when it comes to physical trainings, otherwise we’ll be training without a goal.
4th ODAC started badly, only realized reason to train after completing half marathon
Since we can run, why not?
Pass determination to future batches of ODACians.
How else do we challenge our limits?
Cons:
Safety – high causality rate
Pairing
Medical Checkup prior to competition (Hong Hao)
‘Challenging’ as a group, difference in physical abilities (Qi Hui)
We must face this limit.
Farewell
ODAC tradition to plan an annual farewell for seniors. Is it necessary, do we think that they did enough to deserve a farewell from us? But it’ll make them really happy.
Like duh?!!
People planning for upcoming Term activities:

Other issues
Need for medics
Volunteers for first aid course. App. Cost- $60-80
College will not subsidize
Zhi Ling to get contacts of course providers from Senior Belinda, find out details of the course.
First aid club members not willing to conduct first aid clinic for us, cause seniors actually laugh at them.
People who went for the course can conduct first aid clinic for the rest to ensure that all ODACians at least have to basic knowledge to cope with emergencies.
ODAC fund
Collect monthly club fund of $2 for miscellaneous purposes.
Wind breaker
No need to have a wind breaker. Save up for a water-proof jacket instead. Shelf the issue of singlet /windbreakers for the time being.
Mr Ong’s promise
Look for strength in us and not be so negative towards usJ
Encourage, motivate us people into better human beings, because that’s his job.
Certificate of appreciation if we have done enough; nominate outstanding ODACians for CCA award if he/she has really done enough.
Forgive Mr Ong for the unnecessarily sarcastic and mean comments during interview.
Don’t be put off when Mr Ong starts screaming and shouting at us, say ‘I’m sorry, I’ll work on my weaknesses’ nicely.

ODAC has also held a year-end expedition to Pulau Ubin for the whole college in 2011. In addition, ODAC has also achieved at least 1 star in kayaking as well as attended a Windsurfing course.
For more information, please refer to the blog for future updates or feel free to approach any NYODACIANS.
History
NY ODAC was established in 1978 and was formerly known as OAC. The motto of OAC was
"The experience is YOURS".
During that time, OAC focused more on discipline and was more regimental as compared to the current ODAC. Mrs Koh was the teacher-in-charge then.
Furthermore, 4 marine groups, namely Blue Whale, Dolphin, Marlin and Stingray were initiated in the early years of OAC.
In 2003, Mr Thaddeus Lawrence took over the 1st ODAC. The 1st ODAC is also known as the 25th OAC and has a strength of about 20.
Mr Lawrence took part in the Sahara Desert Run in July 2009.
The motto of ODAC is
"Challenge your limits". As an odacian,we strive to explore and push our limits, be it physically or mentally, especially when participating in outdoors activities.
In addition, all odacians adhere to the following 8 qualities:
Commitment
Determination
Discpline
Integrity
Responsibility
Nature Appreciation
To have Adventurous Spirit
To be a good team player
In 2004, Mr Ong Jiun Hoe and Ms Yap Chiew Ring joined ODAC. ODAC engages in both land and water activities.
In 2005, Ms Lynette Poh joined the ODAC family, leaving in 2006.
In 2006, Ms Seah joined us and assisted Mr Ong in running the club, both stepping down in 2007.
In 2010, Mr Ong came back and together with the newly joined teachers, Mr Loy Suan Hui and Ms Chim Yi Hui, they run the club together.
In 2011, Ms Tan Shuyun, Ms Tan Yi Zhen Sherilyn and Mr Gurmit took over Odac.
NY ODAC has participated in various competitions which include the Adventure Race Singapore, Adventure Trail Challenge
and annual Vertical Marathon. Moreover, ODAC also participate in other activities such as the Outdoor Training Camps, Night Cycling and De Urbanised Traverse.
In 2012, Ms Tan Shuyun left the odac family, and Mr Gilbert Tay joined in.
In 2014, Mr Gilbert Tay left the odac family, and Mr Terence Lin joined in. Together with Mr Gurmit and Ms Tan Yi Zhen, they run the club.
